We were formed in 1974 by Sheila Parsonson MBE, and became a Registered Charity in 1978, covering Colchester and the surrounding area for over 40 years now.
We are an independent rescue, not connected with any other charity. We receive no government funding or grants, and are entirely dependent on our own fundraising, with the help of our Charity Shop in Colchester town centre.
All our cats are neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped to us. Our vets’ bills are a major cost – we never put a healthy cat to sleep, and if we cannot rehome a cat then they live with us for life.
We have a chalet block for cats needing rehoming, and a maternity wing with 4 chalets for expectant mums and kittens. We also have 2 large cat runs for our permanent furry residents, and for cats who need more space.
Coronavirus Update 1st June
As from Monday 1st June 2020 we will be open again for rehoming. Under the current Government guidelines we can do this by appointment only, so please do not just turn up as we won’t be able to see you if we have someone else booked in for homing, as our main concern is the safety of the public and our staff.
Please note that we can only have people who live in the same household coming on to site, ie no friends or family that don’t live with you.
Please phone us on 01206 864284, message us on our Facebook page, or email us on mail@colchestercatrescue.org.uk for an appointment.
If you are self isolating or fall into the vulnerable category, then we are sorry but we can’t have you on site. Thank you for your co-operation in these difficult times.
If you have a cat that you need to rehome, we would prefer it if you could message us on our Facebook page first (or send us an email).
If urgent we will be on site every morning. If you have any cat food/litter to donate to our cats please drop it off while we are there in the mornings.
